Overnight Policy Rate Still Maintains at 2 percent

Bank Negara Malaysia Walk In Public Service CentresOvernight Policy Rate (OPR) unchanged at 2.00 percent after Bank Negara Malaysia Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting on 28 October 2009. The OPR was reduced to 2.00 percent in February 2009.

The reasons given are,
- The international economic and financial conditions have improved further
- The domestic economy showed stronger evidence that suggests conditions are improving and a recovery in economic activity is gaining some strength

The statement also mentioned that in September, the consumer prices declined at a slower rate and inflation in 2010 is projected to be positive but remain subdued.

With the maintaining of the OPR at 2 percent, there should be no changes on the base lending rate (BLR) or the deposit rate.

The next Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting is on 24 November 2009 (Tuesday) and the November meeting  will be the last meeting for the year 2009.

yes it refers to the general FD as well. Except if there is any special promotion FD from the banks.

The observation is that the rate will follow the trend of the OPR.

    Hope this help.
